We have demonstrated that secondhand smoke from marijuana impairs vascular endothelial function in rats, an effect also caused by secondhand smoke from tobacco but the marijuana effect appears to last longer.  This occurs even if the smoke is from marijuana lacking cannabinoids, indicating that the effect is caused by the smoke itself and not the cannabinoids.  We are currently exploring whether aerosols from marijuana heated with leaf vaporizers, which evaporate THC off of the surface of the marijuana leaves but do not cause combustion of the marijuana, also impair vascular function or if the harmful effects are avoided.
