Jyothi Marbin, MD

Dr. Marbin is the Director of the UC Berkeley UCSF Joint Medical Program (JMP). She holds appointments as HS Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at UCSF and HS Clinical Professor at UC Berkeley. Dr. Marbin is a general pediatrician who practices at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland. Prior to her role at the JMP, Dr. Marbin served as the Associate Program Director (APD) for Recruitment and for Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) for the UCSF Pediatrics residency program. She was also the Director of the Pediatric Leaders Advancing Health Equity (PLUS) Residency Program and Founder and Co-Director of the Health Equity & Racial Justice GME Pathway. Dr. Marbin has given many local, regional and national talks on racism in medicine, social justice and medical education. She is a member of the UCSF Academy of Medical Educators.

Dr. Marbin is committed to developing antiracist curricula grounded in cultural humility, community engagement and systems change, with the goal of training physician leaders to drive meaningful structural change to advance health equity. She is deeply involved in immigrant health justice and supporting families seeking asylum. Dr. Marbin believes that medical education is a powerful pathway to advancing health justice.

Dr. Marbin completed her undergraduate work at Brown University, and received her medical degree from the Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University. Dr. Marbin completed her residency training with the PLUS program at UCSF. She completed the UCSF Teaching Scholars Program in 2017, and received a post-baccalaureate certificate in Ethnic Studies from San Francisco State University in 2020.
