Laura A. Schmidt, PhD, is a Professor of Health Policy in the School of Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco. She holds a joint appointment in the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies and the Department of Anthropology, History and Social Medicine. Dr. Schmidt is also Co-Director of the Community Engagement and Health Policy Program for UCSF’s Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute.

Daniel G. Orenstein, JD, MPH, received a law degree from Arizona State University (2011), an MPH in Health Policy from Harvard (2016), and a BA in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Arizona (2005).  Following law school, Dan served as Deputy Director of the Network for Public Health Law in the Western Region, providing technical assistance on a wide variety of public health legal issues.

Joanne Spetz, Ph.D., is a Professor at the Institute for Health Policy Studies, Department of Family and Community Medicine, and School of Nursing at the University of California, San Francisco. She is the Associate Director for Research at the Healthforce Center at UCSF and the Director of the UCSF Health Workforce Research Center for Long-Term Care.

Noah Gubner, PhD

Noah received his PhD in Behavioral Neuroscience at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, OR. His dissertation research utilized behavioral and genetic animal models that have been well established for alcohol research to study the combined effects of nicotine and alcohol on reward and neuroadaptation, with the goal of understanding why these two drugs share such a high rate of co-abuse.

Justin White, PhD

Justin White, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of Health Economics in the UCSF School of Medicine, with joint appointments in the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies and the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. He is also an affiliate of the Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education, the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the Institute for Global Health Sciences at UCSF.

Joe Guydish, PhD

Research on access, delivery, and organization of substance abuse treatment services, treatment effectiveness, and adoption of new treatments into practice settings. He is currently testing an organizational change intervention for treatment programs in tobacco dependence. Joseph Guydish, PhD, MPH, is Professor of Medicine and Health Policy at the University of California, San Francisco.   His research concerns access, delivery, and organization of substance abuse treatment services.
