Weisiyu Abraham Qin, PhD, received his doctorate in Health Behavior at Indiana University Bloomington. During his PhD training, he was awarded multiple scholarships/fellowships and worked as a research assistant and instructor. He collaborated closely with faculty on NIH-funded projects and taught courses related to public health, substance misuse, and health behavior. His research focuses on adolescents and young adults, with the emphasis on psychopathological and behavioral factors driving nicotine and cannabis vaping. He is especially interested in the individual, social, and structural predictors of single and polyuse of vaping products, as well as the developmental consequences of these behaviors. Dr. Qin aims to uncover the causal mechanisms underlying substance use during the critical developmental phases to inform the design of evidence-based prevention strategies tailored to younger populations. As a postdoctoral fellow at CTCRE, Dr. Qin plans to continue his research to investigate the causal mechanisms underlying nicotine and cannabis vaping, examine risk perception and study nicotine and cannabis vaping among racial and ethnic minority populations.
