Kate Frazer, PhD, is currently an Irish Fulbright fellow based at UCSF-CTCRE from March to the end of July 2025. She is an Associate Professor at University College Dublin, Ireland. Her social epidemiological research portfolio adopts a human rights-based approach underpinned by the social determinants of health. Her research adopts co-design methods, focusing on three interconnected public health topics: health inequalities, tobacco control, and public and patient involvement (PPI), which impact clinical practice, health systems, and policy. She is a co-investigator on several co-designed studies for marginalised population groups, including people experiencing homelessness, people who smoke and have a diagnosis of cancer and the Irish Traveller community.
She is a registered general nurse with an extensive career working in tertiary centers of excellence in Belfast, London, and Dublin. She holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree and a PhD in Public Health and Epidemiology from University College Dublin (UCD).
At UCSF-CTCRE, her research will focus on learning more about reducing exposure to secondhand smoke (SHS) and nicotine. She hopes to learn about challenges and solutions from healthcare practitioners and from marginalised populations, including people experiencing homelessness, to inform further SHS research and education in Ireland subsequently.
