Apply to the CTCRE Postdoctoral Fellowship

We’re excited that you’re interested in joining the Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at UCSF.

Applications are now open and will close in January 2026.

To apply, please complete and submit your application using our online form. You can preview all application questions here to help you prepare your materials in advance. 

Applicants must prepare and submit the following through the online application form: 

  • Completed Online Application Form
    Includes personal details, education, research experience, and other background information.
  • Statement of Purpose (up to two pages)
    Describe your interest in tobacco research or tobacco industry documents, summarize your research experience, and outline your career objectives, goals, and reasons for applying to this program.
  • Two Writing Samples
    Provide two papers where you are the single, primary, or co-author (preferably published works you led).
  • Trainee Applicant Information Form
    Download the form, complete it, and upload it within your application. This form is sent directly and confidentially to the UCSF Office of Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity, and Diversity.
  • Three Letters of Reference
    Have your references email their letters directly to [email protected].
    You’ll also list each referee’s name, title, institution, phone number, and email in the form.
  • Eligibility Confirmation
    Applicants must hold (or expect to hold before the start date) a doctoral degree (PhD, MD, PharmD, PsyD, DrPH, JD, or equivalent). 
    U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible for T32-funded positions; applicants without these statuses may apply but may be considered for alternative funding.
